“Right, well…obviously you would, right?”

“Of course. I made sure you’d be able to switch between cold and warm air for the gusts.”

“That’s! Not! The! Problem! Gaaaah! Who in the world would be worried about if it was hot or cold air coming up?!”

“Why would you want to be showered in warm air mid-run when you’d already be burning up…?”

“Uh, Takioto? That’s not the issue here.”

“She’s right! The whole stupid wind feature is unnecessary! We’re all going to be using this thing, too, so get rid of it immediately!”

“I’m terribly sorry, but I am unable to deactivate this function.”

Yukine gently chided Ludie as she made even more complaints.

“Just calm down and think a moment, Ludie. The wind blows outside anyway, and as long as we don’t wear a skirt, it’s not even a problem.”

She made an excellent point. For starters, no one would wear a skirt to go running on a treadmill in the first place. So could someone tell me where exactly this remorse I felt deep in my chest was coming from?

As things stood, it seemed like a convenient machine, and it looked to have plenty of the basic features expected from a treadmill. Not only that, but it apparently could add on extra weight with magic, so it was possible it could produce superior results to normal running.

However, there was still one thing that bothered me.

What was with all the buttons on the display?

“Nanami? What’re all these buttons for?”

“That part of the machine remains a mystery, so I would ask you not to push them. However, it should be fine to press the buttons right in front of you.”

“Did you even try to solve that mystery, or…?”

“Well, it was a used dungeon asset.”

While part of me was terrified, my curiosity got the better of me, and I tried pressing one. When I did, a voice came out from the treadmill.

<That’s it, just like that! Yeeeeeah!!>

“Oh, I get it, so it has a voice to cheer you on.”

It didn’t seem like a feature I’d get much use out of, but despite this, I pushed the button beside it.

<Not bad, not bad at all.>

What exactly was I supposed to be fighting here? I pushed the button next to that one.

<Yes, yes, take it alllllll off!>

<Now everything’s on display!>

I instinctively looked around me. I felt like I was looking at a still frame frozen in time.

“Yeah, so we shouldn’t go pressing any weird buttons.”

I felt that deeply in my heart.
